What to do
Before the opening takbir, silently decide in your heart which prayer you are about to perform — for example, ‘the two rak‘ahs of Fajr for Allah’. The intention is silent; you do not need to say it aloud.
Be careful of
Common mistakes
- Trying to speak the niyyah aloud in Arabic — this is not required.
- Overthinking the wording. A simple, sincere intention is enough.
